James was installed as an elder and deacon at Mattituck on 3 Jun 1832. The records also state he died 25 Jul 1857.
The Sessions Record book contains the following baptisms:
- 1826 June 11 The son of James W Reeve named Phillip
- 1828 August 3. The daughter of James W Reeve named Mary Augusty at Mattituck
James wrote his will on 31 Jan 1857 and it was proved 8 Sep 1857. He mentions his wife Phebe R Reeve, son James, "children of my deceased daughter Miriam J. Osborn," daughter Anna W. Gildersleeve, and "my mother Mehitable W. Reeve." Mehitable was his step-mother.
His widow Phebe wrote her will on 11 Aug 1857 and it was proved 28 Oct 1857. She mentions her son James. She also mentions "the daughters of my said son James" and "the children of my daughter Anna W. Gildersleeve and Miriam J. Osborn deceased."
