(Approximate translation: John Reeve, Master of Arts (as in MA, see "Alumni Cantabrigienses" extract below), Rector of this Church, instituted (installed) on the first day of May of the year of the Reign of King James (by the) grace of God (of) England France and Ireland the nineteenth and Scotland the fifty-fourth in the year 1621). See Research Note 9 below.
In his will, written 23 Feb 1663/4, John refers to the following individuals:

The Alumni Cantabrigienses (Cambridge Alumni) includes the following about him:
REEVE, JOHN. Matric. pens, from Christ's, Easter, 1612. B. at Epping, Essex. B.A. 1614-5; M.A. 1618. Ord. deacon (London) May; priest, Sept. 1619, age 26. Perhaps V. of Bumham, Essex, 1619; R. of Shellow Bowels, by 1628; there till 1672. Recorded as an able and preaching minister in 1650; conformed at the Restoration. Died 1672. Probably father of John (1636). But see Al. Oxon. for a contemporary. (Peile, I. 285.)
The Cambridge Alumni information places his birth at Epping around 1593. This matches the baptism for John, son of Richard in 1592 at Epping:
- 1592 December 26 John the sonn of Rych Reeve
Furthermore, the will of this Richard Reeve was witnessed by Nicholas Burton, whom John states was his brother-in-law. Nicholas was the son of Cressie Burton whom Richard mentions as a friend in his will. This provides further evidence that this John was the son of Richard Reeve of Epping.
Research Notes
(1) The following reference might possibly be to his brother Samuel's infant child. If so, this could suggest John had connections to Middlesex:- Samuell Reeve infant sonn of Samuell Reeve of Stepney and Margrett his wife (nureed? at Barnish Rothing) was buried in this pish the twentieth daye of November Anno Dom 1639
(9) Historical Background — The King James referred to in the Parish Register extract above is King James VI and I. He became King James VI of Scotland on 24 July 1567 and additionally James I of England and Ireland from 24 March 1603. So his 19th regnal year would span the period 25 March (1603+19=) 1621 to 24 March 1622 and his 54th regnal year would span the period 20 June (1567+54=)1621 to 19 June 1622. Now this document already gives an exact date of 1 May, but this approach can be useful where no exact date is given. In this example the period is narrowed down to between 24 March 1622 (start of his 19th E&I regnal year) and 19 June 1622 (end of his 54th Scottish regnal year.
