Narrative
William Thomas REEVE is the sixth know child of William REEVE and his second wife Harriet (nee ROBINSON). His birth was registered during the first quarter of 1861 in the Bradford Registration District in the West Riding of Yorkshire. His birth registration uses the surname REEVE and records his mother's maiden name as ROBINSON. The majority of references to this individual use the surname variant REEVE.The 1861 census shows William T Reeve in his parents household at 95 Bedford Street, Bradford. He is just 2 months old and was born in Bradford, Yorkshire. His older step-sister Emma and three older siblings complete the household.
A decade later and the 1871 census shows the Reeve family have remained at the same address, William is now 10 years old and working as a Worsted Spinner.
William's mother Harriet died in late 1879, when William would have been 18 years old.
At the time of the 1881 census, William is to be found in his widowed father's household at 10 Aeolus Place in Bradford. He is 20 years old, again claims birth in Bradford and is working as an Engine Fireman in a Mill.
FreeBMD notes the marriage of William Thomas REEVES (sic) and Mary Ann MARVELL during the fourth quarter of 1884 in the Bradford (WRY) Registration District.
The known children of William Thomas REEVE(s) and Mary Ann (nee MARVELL) are
- Harriet Reeve, b.reg. 4q1885
- Henrietta Reeve, b.reg. 3q1887 - d.reg. 2q1889

- Harry Reeves (sic), b.reg. 4q1894
- Ada Reeve, b.reg. 2q1897

On the 1891 census William and family are enumerated under the surname REEVES and they living at 127 Amberley Street, Bradford. He is now 29 years of age, again claims birth in Bradford and is now working as a Locomotive Engine Driver. This wife is recorded as Margaret (sic) Reeves, age 28 and also born in Bradford. The household is completed by two children Harriet (age 6) and Thomas William (age 2½ and most likely their son John Willie Reeve).
By the time of the 1901 census William and Maryann (sic) Reeve are living at 54 Ruffold Street, Bradford. He is now 39 years old and employed as a Railway Engine Driver. In addition to his wife, the household comprises their children, Harriet (15), John Willie (10), Harry (6), Ada (4), and Emma (9 months)
On the 1911 census William and family have again moved and are living at 446 Harewood Street in the Bowling district of Bradford. William is now 50 years old and working as a Loco(motive) Engine Driver for GNR (the Great Northern Railway Company). His wife Maryan (sic) is now 48 and indicates they have been married for 26 years and that they have had nine children, six of whom were alive at the time of the census and that three had died. The six surviving children are listed, Harriet (25_, John Willie (22), Harry (16), Ada (13), Emma (10) and finally Frank (aged 7). The entry for their son John Willie Reeve has been struck through; his occupation is noted as "Away" and his industry or service is noted as "Navy".
It is highly probable that William's death is that noted by FreeBMD as William T Reeve during the first quarter of 1939 in the Bradford (WRY) Registration District. This individual was aged 76, so born around 1862/3; a reasonable match for our subject.
Research Notes
(1) The GRO Index to Birth indicates that the birth of Frances Evelyn REEVES, a female, was registered during the September quarter of 1893 in the Bradford (WRY) Registration District, with mother's maiden name of MARVELL.The GRO Index to Deaths notes the death of Francis (sic) Evelyn REEVE (sic), a male, was registered during the December quarter of 1896, again in Bradford Reg.Dist, age 3. In the absence of other entries, there is little doubt this is the same individual.
