FreeBMD notes that the marriage of Alfred Reeves to Kate FOREMAN was recorded in the Hollingbourne Registration District in the fourth quarter of 1880.
The known children of Alfred Reeves and Kate (nee Foreman) are
- Thomas A Reeves, bapt June 1882 at Chart next Sutton Valence (aka Chart Sutton), Kent
- William Frank Reeves, bapt August 1884 at Leeds, Kent
A few months after their marriage, at the time of the 1881 census, Alfred and Kate were living on Back Lane, in Langley, Kent. Although enumerated separately, they were living in the same dwelling as Jesse & Maryann FOREMAN, Kate's parents.1 Alfred is shown as 19 years of age, married, born Otham and employed as an Agricultural Labourer. His wife Kate is 20 and born Sutton Chart (sic, Chart Sutton).
A decade later and on the 1891 census, Alfred and Kate are living at Pear Tree Row, Langley. Alfred is 27 years old, again claims birth in Otham and is employed as an Agricultural Labourer. Alfred & Kate's two sons, Thomas (8) and William (7) complete the household.
By the time of the 1901 census, Alfred and Kate have returned to Back Lane, Langley. Alfred is now 38 years old and was born Otham. He is described as a Farm Servant which has been interpreted as an Agricultural Labourer during the subsequent encoding of the enumeration form. The neighbouring dwelling is occupied by Charles Reeves (age 32, born Langley) & his wife Alice (nee GILBERT, age 28). The relationship (if any) between Alfred and this Charles has yet to be determined. This is not Alfred's elder brother Charles Frederick Reeves who, it is believed, had died a year or two earlier. Alfred & Kate's household is completed by their younger son William.
On the 1911 census, Alfred and Kate were living at Comp Shoot, Boro(ugh) Green in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St Mary The Virgin, Platt. Alfred in now 48 years old and again claims birth in Otham. He gives his trade as Fruit Gardening and he is a worker.
Alfred's younger son William Frank Reeves was killed whilst serving his country during WW1 in France in November 1917. The CWCG notes William was "Son of Alfred and Kate Reeves, of Bloor's Lane, Rainham, Kent; husband of Lily Reeves, of 11, Danes Hill, Gillingham, Kent."2
