Children of Alfred Clark Reeves and Martha A. Ray:
  1. Florence Dovey Reeves, b. 8 Mar 1882
  2. Thomas Henry Reeves, b. 13 Dec 1884
  3. Mitchell Frederick Reeves, b. 23 Jan 1886
  4. Minnie M. Reeves, b. c1888
  5. John A. Reeves, b. c1892
  6. George Clayton Reeves, b. 15 Jun 1896
  7. Charles Davis Reeves, b. 30 Dec 1899

Alfred son of Thomas appears to be the only one by this name in this part of Kentucky and would appear to be the same one who married Mahala A. Reeves, at the time, the widow of Stanfield Jones. Alfred died by the 1910 census as Mahala is listed as widowed. They don't appear to have had any children.

Alfred was in the Civil War. Alfred filed a pension application 8 Dec 1887. His widow Mahala A. Reeves filed one 15 Nov 1916 and another person, Thomas H. Reeves, listed as "next friend" of a minor in the index applied as well on 29 Apr 1910.

Alfred and Martha apparently moved to Ohio County, Indiana soon after marriage where they are found in 1880.

Listed as Alfred C. Reeves on the 1900 census. Several of his children's death certificates state his name as Clark and mother as Martha. Son Thomas's Indiana marriage record states parents names as Martha Ray and A. C. Reeves and says Thomas was born in Carter County, Kentucky.

Martha appears to have died around 1900 as Alfred apparently remarried to Mahala A. Reeves in 1901 in Rowan County. She lived in Fleming County after that. A Mahala A. Reeves applied for a widow's pension for her husband Alfred C. Reeves's service in the 97th & 37th Illinois Infantry in 1916 from Kentucky. This indicates he had died by this point. In addition a minor also filed an application from Indiana under Alfred C. Reeves in 1910 with "next friend" listed as Thomas H. Reeves. This would appear to indicate that Thomas Henry Reeves (who lived in Indiana) was filing on the behalf of his two-year-old daughter Goldie and provides more evidence that the Alfred who married Martha Ray married again to Mahala Reeves after Martha's death.

On the 1900 census, Alfred's sister Polly A. Helphinstine (b. Jan 1832) is living with the family. There is a newspaper announcement about the marriage from 1895.

The Evening Bulletin, 14 Mar 1895
H. C. Helphinstine, aged seventy, and Miss Polly A. Reeves, aged sixty-two, were married March 10th in Fleming. This is the groom's third venture. He says he feels as young as the day he first married.

A City directory for Lexington, Kentucky from 1931 lists Mahala A. Reeves living at r428 Morgan Av and lists her as widow of Clarke. This indicates Alfred's full name was Alfred Clark Reeves.
