Narrative
Ann REEVES, the seventh known child of Samuel REEVES and his wife Sarah (nee MARDON). She was born in Crediton, Devon during January 1803. She was baptised at the Bowden Hill Presbyterian Meeting House in Crediton in February 1803. See Research Note 1 below.Although unmarried, Ann is known to have had three children, the fathers of whom are not known
- Fanny Squire REEVES, bapt November 1822
- William REEVE, bapt June 1831
- Edmund Drake REEVES, bapt September 1838
It is probable her mother Sarah REEVES died during the second quarter of 1844.
At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Ann and her son Edmund are Inmates in the Crediton Union Workhouse on Western Road, Crediton. She is now 49 years old and claims birth in Crediton, Devon. Her occupation is recorded as being a Weaver.
Ann has not been identified on the 1861 or any subsequent census. It is highly likely hers is the death recorded during the fourth quarter of 1851 in the Crediton Registration District. Ann's age at death is recorded as being 48, a very good match to this individual.
Research Notes
(1) The left edge of image of the reverse of folio 12 the Register from the Bowden Hill Presbyterian Meeting House is not distinct. Some have interpreted her name as Nance rather than Annie. In later life she appears most frequently as Ann and once as AnneSources
