Asa appears to have lived with his parents until they passed. In 1870, he was living with his brother Alvin's family.

Probate records for Pettis County Missouri state that "Asa H. Reeves, late of said county, died at his place of residence in said Pettis County, on or about the 25th day of July A. D. 1874, intestate....Shelton D. Reeves and Elbert G. Reeves, brothers of the decease, residing in said Pettis County, Mo., and a number of children of deceased brothers & sisters." John A. Lacy was appointed administrator to take inventory.
