Narrative

Child of Benjamin Reeves and Nancy Roberts:
  1. Tom Reeves
The history of the Peter Ringware House built circa 1778 and located at 209 Main Street in Swansboro which is possibly the oldest house in Onslow County, mentions Benjamin Reaves. Benjamin Reaves, a bricklayer, bought lot 23 where the house was later built from William Wrenn in January of 1778. Benjamin apparently had financial troubles, for Archelaus Weeks bought the lot in the summer of 1778.

This may be the same Benjamin Reeves who served in the Revolution from a North Carolina company. A Benjamin Reeves is listed on the roster of soldiers from N.C. in the Amer. Rev. Comp. By D.A.R. of NC.

Benjamin apparently died before 1796 when the estate of Nancy Reeves who appears to be a widow was probated in Craven County.

Research Notes

Benjamin may have had a son named Benjamin born in early 1781. In Craven County Court Minutes from Sep 1795 it states "Ordered that Benjamin Reeves aged 14 years & six month & Wm Taylor aged 13 years be bound to Archibald McCalop? to learn the Taylors Trade."
