Benjamin is recorded in the 1860 census in Ballard County, Kentucky living in the home of his uncle Walter W. Bryant. Walter Bryant had also moved to Mississippi County, Missouri where he was recorded in the 1850 census but sometime before 1860, he returned to Kentucky and Benjamin apparently returned with him.
