After the death of her father, Jesse Britt Reeves, sometime before 1859, Susan Reeves is found in the 1860 census living in Scott County, Missouri in the household of her mother, Louisa who had remarried to Joseph Lanham.

By the 1870 census, Susan and her brother Charles are living in the household of their mother, Louisa Lanham who is again widowed, in Fox River Precinct of White County, Illinois.

Susan's first husband John Unkles appears to have died within a few years of their marriage and she is last recorded in the 1880 census in Ballard County, Kentucky married to a Criet Eskeen. This name is written almost illegibly by the census enumerator and is probably incorrect.
