Narrative
Based upon the location of records of Catey Reeves and Catherine Reeves, along with their ages, they appear to be the same person. On 29 Aug 1782, four year old orphan Catey Reeves was indentured to Elizabeth Sharp to learn the skills of spinning and sewing. The bond does not provide any clue as to the identity of her deceased parents.
Fifteen years later on 13 Dec 1797, a bastardy bond was presented to the Orange County, North Carolina court by William Norwood, Catlet Campbell and John Huddy (sic?). William Norwood was charged with being the father of the bastard child Catherine Reeves had recently given birth to. There is no mention of the child's sex or name.
Research Notes
The 1779 tax lists of Orange County only lists three Reeves males, John Reeves, George Reeves, Sr. and Ameriah Reeves. None of the children of Ameriah are known nor when and where he died; however, he is the only Reeves in Orange County who could be considered as a possible father of Catherine. There was an Ameriah Reves recorded on the 1796 tax list of Grayson County, Virginia but nothing to indicate any connection to the Ameriah Reeves of Orange County NC in the 1770's.Sources
