Little about Charles' early life is known and he has not been identified with certainty on the 1841 census, but by elimination is most probably the son of George Reeves and Mary.At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Charles was living in Totton, Hampshire in the household of William & Margaret BRYER. His age is given as 17 and his birth place was Romsey, Hampshire.
On the 1861 census, Charles is living with his wife Mary A and their son George A Reeves. The place and date of Charles' marriage to Mary has yet to be identified.
On the 1871 and 1881 census, Charles is employed as a domestic Coachman at Ferny Hurst, Nursling Hampshire and is living with his wife Mary A. On the 1871 census they have a 4 year old boarder Henry H Mitchener. A decade later Henry is still boarding with Charles & Mary and is working as a Groom.
On the 1891 & 1901 census, Charles and Mary are living at Lords Hill, Rownhams and he is a Domestic Gardener (1891) and Agricultural Labourer (1901).
