Narrative
Charlotte is the elder of two known children of Thomas Reeves and Ann whose maiden name is unknown. Charlotte was baptised on 25 April 1824 at the Parish Church of St Peter at Bishops Waltham in Hampshire. By the time her younger brother Alfred was born a year or two later, the family were established in Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight. On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Charlotte is found in a family context with what appears to be her father Thomas, mother Ann and a younger brother Alfred. Her father Thomas is working as a butcher.
At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Charlotte is working as a servant in the household of Charles M Kernott, a physician, at 72 High Street, West Cowes, Isle of Wight. Her age is given as 27 and her place of birth as Bishops Waltham. Her mother and brother are still living in nearby Carisbrooke.
Charlotte has not been identified on the 1861 or subsequent census returns. It is possible she has married, but it is more probable that hers is the death recorded on FreeBMD in the June quarter of 1855 in the Isle of Wight Registration District. The Isle of Wight Family History Society's site records this Charlotte's age as 31, which exactly matches this individual. There is a corresponding burial recorded on Familysearch in Carisbrooke.
