Edmond first appears as Edward on the 1850 census in Houston, Texas with William B. Reeves (56) and Eveline Reeves (19), apparently living in a hotel. William is listed as a Justice of the Peace.

He was first married to Mary Jane Bronson by whom he had at least one son. They appear to have divorced as both remarried later.

In 1860, he is listed as Edmond B. Reeves, age 27, still in Houston under the household of William B. Reeves.

The 1880 census states his parents were born in Virginia and Louisiana respectively.
