The death certificate states he was born the 23rd, while the headstone says 24th. The death certificate also incorrectly lists his parents as Wm Reeves and Mary J. Mason.

In 1860, he was listed in the household of E. and D. Brinson. The household included M. J. Reeves (22), J. P. Reeves (19), and J. W. B. Reeves (4).

In 1880, he is listed in the household of William and Mary Mason. John is denoted as a stepson. This could explain why his parents were listed as William and Mary on the death certificate. Mary J. wife of William Mason died 26 Sep 1919.
