Edmund is the last of nine known children of John Reeves and his wife Jane (nee JOY). He was baptised at the Priory Church of St Mary & St Blaise at Boxgrove, Sussex in June 1807.On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Edmund appears to be lodging in the household of Charles MILLYARD; he was enumerated separately, but was sharing the same dwelling in the hamlet of East Hampnett, in the Parish of Boxgrove. Edmund is 30 years old and work as a Carter. He was born in county (Sussex).
His brother George Reeves and sister-in-law Sarah were also living in East Hampnett.

Edmund is not immediately identified on the 1861 census. It is strongly believed Edmund is the individual living in household of George Reeves at Crocker Hill in the parish of Boxgrove. He age is shown as 45 years, which might be a transcription error for 54, which would be closer to our subject's age at this time. His relationship to George is shown as brother in law, but it is believed they are brothers. Edmund is unmarried. He claims birth in Boxgrove, Sussex and he is employed as an Agricultural Labourer.
On the 1871 census, Edmund appears as a lodger in the household of his brother James Reeves and James' wife Phoebe. Edmund is now 64 years old and unmarried, He claims birth in Boxgrove Sussex and is still working as an Agricultural Labourer.
