Narrative

It seems likely this Eliza is the daughter of George Reeves and his wife Mary. If so, she was recorded on the 1841 census in a family context at Lee in the parish of Romsey Extra. She was not found with this family on the 1851 census.

By the time of the 1851 census, Eliza is employed as one of several domestic staff in the household of Ann King at North Stoneham Farm in the Parish of St Nicolas, North Stoneham.

A decade later and the 1861 census shows Eliza living in the All Saints Parish of Southampton. Two properties (46 & 47 Above Bar) have been enumerated as a single dwelling, with no head of household present. Eliza is one of two house servants at this address. It is possible they are a continuation of the household of 45 Above Bar (enumerated on the previous page) or that the head of house of 46-7 and his family were absent on census night. Eliza is shown as 24 years old and claims birth in Romsey.

As Eliza Reeves, she has not been identified on the 1871 census. However it is probable she married Charles LUKE (FreeBMD M. Reg 1q 1862 Southampton Registration District) and is living with him and their daughter Bessie at Norman Cottage on the Winchester Road in Shirley.

This individual has not been pursued further.
