Narrative
Child of Elizabeth M. Reeves and Unknown:- James Robertson Reeves, b. 27 Sep 1858
- Dellnora Olive Kemerly, b. 24 Sep 1867, m. William H. Miller
- Effie Lee Kemerly, b. 16 Jun 1874, m. Joseph C. Stewart
In the 1860 census, Elizabeth is recorded in both the household of her father Neville Reeves and that of her uncle, Elijah Reeves, a brother to Neville in another township.. The household of Elijah Reeves also lists her 2 year old son, James Robertson. This Elizabeth M. is listed as a 19 year old “domestic servant.” Listed under her name is James Robertson, age 2. And relationship was “niece” and “son” for James.
Like Jim (James Robertson Reeves), both Della and Effie lived with different families in Hancock County, Indiana. In the 1880 Federal Census, Effie is listed under the household head of Matthias Kemerly, as a “niece” born in 1873. In 1880 Elizabeth was not listed in that household. Although Della was never listed with the Kemerly family. Della always went by the last name of White before her marriage. In the 1880 census, Della, age 12, was living in the home of Dr. Samuel A Troy as “other”. Apparently before 1880, Elizabeth and William’s daughters were placed in other homes and James R. stayed with the Reeves; however, he knew they were his sisters.
Elizabeth and William Kemerly may have divorced between 1870 and 1880. They are listed together in the 1870 census, but William is listed as a divorced man in 1880. However, his 1911 death certificate gives his marital status as widowed.
