Narrative

Nothing is presently known of Emily's early life.

She is first found on the 1871 census at Ilsington in Devon, England where she is working as a Governess in the household of William Browne. She is listed on the enumeration sheet as Emley (sic) Reeves aged 24.

By the time of the 1881 census, she has moved to Taunton Somerset, and she is lodging in the household of Richard WARR. She is working as the Head Mistress of a Public Day School. Its is probable that she meet her husband to be Thomas Randell during her time in Taunton, since his three children by his first wife were all born in Taunton in the period 1875 to 1880.

Emily and Thomas Randell were married in the third quarter of 1889 in the Sleaford (Lincolnshire) Registration District, following the death of Thomas's first wife the previous year.

On the 1891 census, now as Emily Randell, she is living in the Parsonage House, Bede College in Durham, where Thomas is Principal of (the) Training College.

By the time of the 1901 census, Emily and Thomas are living at The Rectory in Church Street Sunderland.
