Narrative

George, the son of William Reeves and Charlotte (nee Dacre) was baptised at the Parish Church of the Blessed Mary, Upham, Hampshire on 11 July 1811.

At the time of the 1851 census, George is working as a Gardener in the household of Mary Davison and her cousin Margaret Truss in Bitterne. He is unmarried, aged 37 and claims birth in Upham. His place of birth remains constant across all subsequent census entries.

By the 1861 census, George's fortunes seem to have improved. He is now married and his wife's name is Mary and he is described as a Landed Proprietor. They are living in Horton Heath. George is now aged 49.

It seems possible George may have married his employer since FreeBMD records a marriage in June quarter of 1860 in the Winchester Registration District, which might be this George marrying Mary Davison, but note the alternate pairing of George and Henrietta has not been ruled out.

On the 1871 census, George and Mary are working as servants in the household of Joseph and Kezia Hunt and their seven children at Rose Hill Cottage in Nursling. George is now aged 59.

By the time of the 1881 census, George and Mary Ann are living alone at Stratford Villas, Bitterne. George is now aged 68 and is again working as a Gardener. (It is possible Mary's age of 57 or 51 and place of birth have been miss-recorded or that George has remarried, since this is the first occasion his wife is named as Mary Ann rather than simply Mary.)

George has not yet been identified on the 1891 census, nor has a probable death registration been identified.
