Research Notes
(1) The 1851 census indicates George's son James was born in Aldgate in the City of London, making it highly probable James's birth is that noted by the GRO Index to Births as being registered during the first quarter of 1843 in the London East Registration District. The index show James's mother's maiden name as PEWTRES.The same census indicates son Frederic was born in Shoredicth, Middlesex, making it highly likely his birth is that noted by the GRO Index to Births as being registered during the third quarter of 1838 in the Shoreditch Registration District with his mother's maiden name shown as POWTRISS.
The marriage of George Reeves and Ann Pewtriss was solomnised at the Parish Church of St Andrew, Holborn, London in July 1828. Ann signed her name using a long s as the first s of the double s and that has resulted in various mistranscriptions appearing online, most notably as Pewtrip.
