Narrative

In 1791 purchases his first commission as an Ensign in the 8th (The King's) Regiment of Foot). See 17910208_London_Gazette_13281_87_Reeves_George_J.

In 1806 is serving as a Major with the 27th (or Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot. See 18060214_Army_List_Reeves_George_J.

By 1814 he is still serving in the 27th (or Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot, now as Lieutenant-Colonel. See 18140210_Army_List_Reeves_George_J

In 1819 is appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Placentia, Newfoundland. See 18190615_London_Gazette_17486_1045_Reeves_George_J.

There is an Ireland Court of Chancery case which mentions him from 1838. The case was "George Marmaduke Forster Plt. vs George James Reeves Cath his wife George Marmaduke Reeves Revd John Cramer Roberts Anne Homan The Revd Philip Homan Catherine Forster A Frances Mary Hester Foster." An answer was made by George James Reeves, Catherine his wife, and George Marmaduke Reeves on 25 April 1839. This indicates George and Catherine were likely the parents of George Marmaduke Reeves.

There is a statement by the widow Catherine Reeves dated 14 Apr 1845 which begins: "I Catherine Reeves do solemnly and sincerely declare, that I was lawfully married at St Peters Church Dublin on the 21st day of February 1803 to George James Reeves late a Major General in Her Majesty's Service, who died on the 14th of March last in London aged 73 years from natural causes." The papers include a certification of their marriage record as taken from St. Peters Parish, Dublin register.
