Research Notes

Reeves' family information from family members who settled in Greene and Lawrence Counties of Indiana after leaving the New River area indicate that Hannah Reeves who married John M. Burton was a daughter of William Reeves and Anne Terrell. According to the 1850 census of Greene County, Indiana, Hannah Reeves Burton was born in 1796 which does not agree with the ages of William Reeves daughters as listed in the census records of 1800 and 1810.

• Listed in the household of William Reeves in the 1800 census of Ashe County NC are 1 Male 0-10, 1 Male 26-44, 3 Females 0-10 and 1 Female 16-25.
• The 1810 census of Ashe County NC lists a total of ten members of the household: eight children - 3 boys and 5 girls, as follows: 2 males 0-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 26-44, 3 females 0-10, 2 females 10-15 and 1 female 26-44.
• The 1820 census of Ashe County lists 5 males 0-10, 1 male 16-25, 1 male +45, 2 females 10-16 and 1 female 26-46 in William Reeves' household.

A child, John Burton, born circa 1810, was listed in the book A Genealogy of the John Pleasant Burton Family pub. 1962 by Knox. The book identified a John Burton who married Delilah McQuithy as being a member of this family; however, that John Burton belonged to a different and unrelated Burton family.

Research Notes

This family connection requires much more research. Recent research into a court case filed by George Reeves son of Jesse Reeves and the heirs of Biddy Reeves in Grayson County have identified Hannah, the wife of John M. Burton as the child of Jesse and Biddy Terrell Reeves. In Vol. 2 of the Grayson County Court Orders on page 596, the names of the daughters of Jesse Reeves included in the court case are listed along with their husbands.
