Narrative

Children of Henry Reeves:
  1. David Reeves
  2. Samuel Reeves
  3. Rachel Reeves
  4. William Reeves

Henry is said to have been of Saybrook in his probate record. Samuel, Rachel, and William were minor children of Henry who came under the guardianship of their brother David on 12 Feb 1752 according to his probate record. This may be the Henry Reeves who married Rachel Bull on 3 May 1716 in Saybrook, Connecticut. However, the fact that the above children were minors at their father's death makes it unlikely that Rachel Bull was their mother.

From his probate record:
October 17th 1751
William Reeve and Samuel Reeve both sons of Henry Reeve late of Saybrook Decd personally appeared and made choice of their Brother David Reeve of Saybrook aforsd to be their Guardian
Before me John Tully Justc Pac

Note that the surname of this family appears as "Reaves" and "Reeve" at different pages in the probate file.

Research Notes

The Old Saybrook Church records contain the following entries which likely relate to this family:
Reeve, Ann, dau. Henry, bp. Mar 24, 1744, on his w.'s acct.
Reeve, David, posthumous s. David, bp. May 15, 1757, on his w. acct.
Reeve, s. Henry, d. Jan 6, 1742, ae 1y.
Reeve, s. Henry, bp. Jan. 1742/3
Reeve, Henry, his inf. ch. d. Dec 1750
Reeve, Henry, &w., d. Sept. 27, 1757
Reeve, Mary, dau. Henry, d. Oct. 2, 1739, ae 1y.

Based on these entries, Henry appears to have had a grandson David, and children Ann, Henry, Mary and an infant who died in 1750. However, the record appears to state that Henry and/or his widow died 27 Sep 1757. The probate record which dates from 1751/2 does not mention a widow. The transcription may perhaps be mistaken. If the entry reads "Sept. 27, 1751" this would make more sense. Also, there is no mention of these children from the church records in the probate file, so these could concern two different Henry Reeves of Saybrook.

Connecticut probate records also contain a document where Ephraim Johnson became the guardian of Sarah "Rives," minor daughter of David "Rives" of Saybrook, deceased, in 1775.
