Hiram Reeves married Susan Harper on 10 October 1838 in Pike Co., GA. He may have been related to Allen Reeves who married Jane Harper in Pike Co., GA. Both men later lived in Butts Co., GA. Allen subsequently moved to Mississippi, while Hiram moved to DeKalb County, Alabama. In 1850, John H. Harper, 17, GA, was living with the family. Hiram was shown in HH 162/162, while Eli Reeves (age 27) and family were shown in HH 163/163 and Milton Reeves (age 24) and family were shown in HH 164/164. William Reeves, 50, GA, and wife Letha W., 58, NC, were shown in HH 159/159 with sons Jesse M., 21, and Jonathan P., 18. Jesse M. Reeves, son of Hiram, later moved to Newton Co., MS, where he lived near Allen's family.

Hiram Reeves was enumerated in Butts Co., GA, in 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1870. He appeared in the 1864 census for reorganizing the Georgia militia as a resident of Butts County. Between 1870 and 1880, he moved to DeKalb Co., AL, where he and Susan were enumerated in 1880. In 1880, he indicated that he and both parents were born in Georgia. Susan indicated that she was born in Georgia but that both of her parents had been born in Virginia.

Research Notes

(1)   It has been suggested Hiram's parents are William Reeves c 1793 and Letha W. Bishop, b. 19 Apr 1792, Granville County, NC based on proximity in the 1850 census, but no conclusive evidence has yet been found.
