Narrative

Isaac Reeves, the fifth of eight known children of John and Ann Reeves, was baptised at the Parish Church of St Michael, Lyneham, Wiltshire in March 1846. A corresponding birth registration at FreeBMD has yet to be identified.

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Isaac is shown as being 5 years old and born in Preston, Wiltshire. His four older siblings were born in nearby Tockenham.

A decade later and the 1861 census again shows Isaac enumerated as Isac (sic). He is shown as 13 years of age and born Lyneham, Wiltshire. He is the eldest of four children in his parents household at Preston and he is employed as an Agricultural Labourer.

Isaac Reeves married Selina CURTIS during the fourth quarter of 1869, their marriage being registered in the Cricklade Registration District.
The only known child of Isaac Reeves and Selina (nee Curtis) is

1. Fanny Reeves, bapt July 1870 at Bradenstoke-cum-Clack Wiltshire, died 1870

The death of both Selina and Fanny are recorded on the same GRO page in the third quarter of 1870, Cricklade Registration District. Selina was buried at Lyneham in September 1870 ¹.

On the 1871 census, Isaac is living in Bradenstoke as a lodger in the household of Daniel & Ann LOVELOCK. He is 24 years old and a widower, born Lyneham Wiltshire. Both he and Daniel Lovelock are working as Agricultural Labourers.

Isaac Reeves married Elizabeth SHEPPARD during the third quarter of 1872, their marriage being recorded in the Highworth Registration District.
The known children of Isaac Reeves and Elizabeth (nee Sheppard) are

1. Ernest Henry Reeves, born c1874, Wroughton Wiltshire
2. Emma Reeves, born c1876, Swindon Wilts
3. Ellen F Reeves, born c1885, Swindon Wilts
4. Frederick John Reeves, born c1888, Lyneham Wilts

At the time of the 1881 census, Isaac along with his wife Elizabeth are living at 22 Britannia Place, Swindon. Isaac is 35 years old, was born in Lyneham, Wiltshire and is employed as a General Labourer. There are three children in the household, Annie Kate SHEPPARD (step daughter, aged 10), Ernest Henry (son, 7) and Emma (daughter, 5).

On the 1891 census, Isaac and his wife Elizabeth have returned to Preston with their two youngest children. He is now 4 years old and again claims birth in Lyneham. He is working as an Agricultural Labourer.

Isaac has not been identified on the 1901 census and his wife Elizabeth is shown as a Widow and head of Household in Preston. It is highly probable Isaac's is the death noted by FreeBMD in the first quarter of 1901, age 54.
