The widow Mary, of New York City, left a will dated 6 Apr 1885 in which she names the following individuals:
  • daughter Catherine M. E. Travis
  • my grandson James R. Strong
  • my grandson Charles E. Strong 3rd
  • my faithful servant Margaret Helsinger
  • grand-daughter Nellie E. Pond the daughter of Catherine M. E. Travis
  • my daughter Sarah Strong, wife of Charles E. Strong

This turns out to be the widow of James Reeves as Margaret Helsinger is found in their household in 1860, 1870 and was still with the widow Mary in 1880. Thomas Reeves, his brother, was with them in 1860, age 54.

The following baptisms were recorded at Washington Square Church (Dutch Reformed) in Manhatten:
  • December 12, 1845 | 160 | Mary Dobbs | James (&) Mary Reeves | (born) August 7, 1837
  • December 12, 1845 | 161 | James | James (&) Mary Reeves | (born) April 1st 1840
  • December 12, 1845 | 162 | Sarah | James (&) Mary Reeves | (born) September 20th 1842
  • December 12, 1845 | 163 | Emily | James (&) Mary Reeves | (born) May 23d 1845

James is listed as a Butcher on the census. In 1850, he was in New York City. Thomas Reeves (43) was with them along with Catharine Denton (50). This identifies him as the son of James Reeves of New York City who mentions Catherine Denton (possibly a daughter) in his will and also specifies that his son James should take care of his son Thomas who was an "imbecile."

The marriage of daughter Catherine to Stephen Travis on 9 Feb 1854 and Sarah to Charles Edward Strang on 23 Aug 1865 was recorded in New South Dutch Church records of New York City.
