James M. Reeves, Sr.
James M. Reeves, Sr., at the ripe old age of 82, died at his home two miles north of Johnson City Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock following a short illness.
....from the late residence Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, in charge of Rev. O. R. Tarwater pastor of the First Methodist church. Interment will be held at the family cemetery near the home.
Pall-bearers are to be: Samuel H. Hunt, J. C. Campbell, W. Perry Miller, Abja Fitzgerald, Mr. Sayre and Jesse G. Smith.
The deceased was born July 10, 1845, the son of Peter Muller Reeves and Matilda DeVault Reeves. Mr. Reeves is survived by one son, James M. Reeves, Jr., of Johnson City, and one daughter, Mrs. Joe M. Hardin, of Alusta, Okla. Other survivors are one brother, Col. E. C. Reeves, of Johnson City, one sister, ...... Ridge. Two brothers, John D. Reeves and George F. Reeves, also a sister, Mrs. Addie Jennings, are dead.
Mr. Reeves was married to Miss Myra Clark Gaines in 1876, who died in 1910.
The deceased was a member of one of the oldest pioneer families in East Tennessee and is a descendant of the first citizens who settled in this section of Tennessee. Mr. Reeves has lived practically his entire life in Johnson City and vicinity and has been actively engaged in farming for a number of years.
