He appears as James W Reeves on the 1860 census in his parent’s household, the youngest of their five children at that time, in Walton, Georgia.On the 1870 census James W Reeves again appears in his parent’s household in Brantleys District of Walton Co., Georgia.
J.W. Reeves was united in matrimony to Miss Fannie Arnett, fifth child and fourth daughter of William P. Arnett on February 28, 1878. (per obit)

On the 1900 census James W and Francis E Reeves are listed in Fox Creek, Clay Co., along with three of their four children. Their eldest child is John T Reeves and his place of birth is given as Alabama, which in the absence of an 1880 census sighting confirms that James had left Georgia and arrived in Alabama prior to his son John’s birth in March 1879.
On the 1910 census James W and Francis E Reeves are enumerated in Lineville. All of their children have left home and there are three boarders listed in their household.
On the 1920 census James W and Fannie E Reeves are again enumerated in Lineville, Clay Co. Three of their grandchildren, Milton (age 12), Norine (10), and Abbie R SMITH (3) are living with them, plus four boarders (including one also with surname Smith) and two servants. See Research Note 1 below.
On the 1930 census Francis E Reeves is enumerated as a widow. Still living with her are her grandchildren Norine & Albia R SMITH.
According to an obituary article in the Lineville Headlight of 3 January 1929, James Wiley Reeves died on 30 December 1928.
