Initially, the only record of John Reeves that had been found was from the Wake County Court Minutes of Sep 1778:
Ordered that John Reeves orphan of George Reeves, deced., be bound an apprentice to Woodson Daniel until he come to the Age of twenty one Years being about this time the Age of three Years.

Recent research has produced a subsequent record in neighboring Orange County for an apprenticeship in 1785 which could be this same John Reeves:
28 Nov 1785 John Reeves orphan age 13 years in March 1785 apprenticed to Jennett Anderson to learn art & mistery of a tailor.
