Extracted from his obituary . . .Educated Eton and M.A. from Queen's Oxford in 1778.
He became a member of the Middle Temple, and about 1780 was called to the Bar.
Appointed Commissioner of Bankrupts in 1780.
In 1789 Mr Reeves was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquarians, and in 1790 of The Royal Society
In 1791, upon a Court of Judicature being instituted at Newfoundland, Mr Reeves was appointed Chief Justice, and went there to execute the duties of his office; but his absence from England was of very short duration. On his return to England in the autumn of 1792, he found the public mind much agitated by the revolutionary scenes then acting in France , .. .. ..
In 1800 Mr Reeves was appointed by Mr Pitt 1 to the office of King's Printer, in conjunction with .. .. ..
He was not married; his habits were economical, and he died possessed of considerable wealth. As he left no will, the property is divided among four individuals, his cousins, one of whom had been his companion and housekeeper for many years.
