Narrative

John Reeves is recorded as having been appointment as a postmaster in Warren County, Ohio on 21 July 1825.

In an 1847 deed from Mason County, Kentucky, "John Reeves and Nancy his wife of the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County and State of Ohio," sold his part of the "farm of his late father Austin Smith Reeves Dcd."

By the 1850 census, John and his brother George were merchants living in Cincinnati, Ohio. John was extremely prosperous for his personal estate was valued at $25,000.

A biographical sketch of Milton O. Reeve, son of his brother Austin Smith Reeve includes the following: The subject of this sketch (M. O. Reeve) went to Ohio in 1824, where he was employed as clerk by an uncle, John Reeves, in a dry goods store and post office (in Warren county).

In the 1860 census, John Reeves is 70 years old and a widower, living in the residence of Charles Monroe, a real estate agent. John is described as an insurance agent. There is the grave of a Mrs. Reeves who died July of 1856 who is very likely Nancy, John's wife. She is buried in the Reeves plot in Section D, Lot 1 of Wesleyan Cemetery which is marked by a very degraded stone but the inscription "Family of John Reeve" can still be seen.

The will of John Reeves gives "One portion to my sister Sibble Truith, One portion to the heirs of my Brother Benjamin Reeves, one portion to the heirs of my Brother Austin S. Reeves and one portion to the heirs of my brother George Reeves." It also appoints a nephew, Austin S. Reeves as an executor.

Although John does not appear to have had any children, his will refers to "John Reeves Strange Waller, a man who I raised and who now lives on my farm."
