Narrative

The 1820 census of Greenville County SC lists the household of John Reeves (misspelled as Reavs in original) as containing 2 males under 10, 1 male 16-25 and 1 female 16-25. His brother Ewel Reeves is listed on the same page.

In 1830 the census listing for John Reeves shows his household with 1 male 5-9, 2 males 10-14, 1 male 30-39, 1 female <5, 1 female 10-14 and 1 female 20-29. On that page there is another Reeves individual listed as William Reeves age 40-50 who was presumably his brother William Reeves but Ewel was not recorded there.

Research Notes

The census of 1830 was supposedly taken by June, 1830 but it is unknown how accurate that is in all locations. A John Reeves who could well be this person was also listed on the 1830 census of Washington County, Arkansas. Although the ages of the children do not perfectly match, they are quite close and if some time transpired between the dates they were taken, this could be the same family. This was at the time Washington County was being created and the census may not have been enumerated within the exact period prescribed.

The Y-DNA of an individual whose earliest proven ancestor descended from a Reeves family in that area of northwest Arkansas matches a descendant of William Reeves, believed to be the brother of John Reeves, which could account for the genetic connection between these families.
