Research Notes

This may be John Reeves but there is currently no evidence to provide proof. That John Reeves was approximately the same age, born in South Carolina and part of a family from which several descendants are found in Y-DNA Group 4 of the Reeves DNA Project. This could possibly be a link to connect another participant of Group 4 who descends from Ambrose Reeves of Carroll County AR which is in close proximity to the area where John Reeves lived and was approximately the same age as the unknown son, born circa 1822 of John Reeves and listed in the 1830 and 1840 census.

In the 1830 census of Washington County AR, John Reeves is recorded only three households from Simeon Moore, father of Arvazine Moore, future wife of Ambrose Reeves. This gives more credence to the theory that Ambrose may be the currently unidentified son, born c1822, of John Reeves.

The census of 1830 was supposedly taken by June, 1830 but it is unknown how accurate that is in all locations. A John Reeves of Greenville County, South Carolina listed there last in 1830 could well be the same individual listed on the 1830 census of Washington County, Arkansas. Although the ages of the children do not perfectly match, they are quite close and if some time transpired between the dates they were taken, this could be the same family. Since this was at the time Washington County was being created, the census may not have been enumerated within the exact period prescribed.
