According to an index of Coal Mining accidents, John Reevie, age 59, died on 22 Oct 1877 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. It mentions he had a widow Jane Scobbie and was buried in Blantyre cemetery 6 Nov 1877. The cause was an explosion of firedamp. An image of the Scotland Statutory Deaths record includes the fact that his parents were John Revie, a handloom weaver (decd) and Agnes Revie (M S Turnbull) (decd).

Research Notes

Most of the records in Scotland give his surname as Revie. One of the censuses says he was born in New Monkland, Lanarkshire while another says Airdrie, Lanarkshire.
