Headstone says his name was John L. Reeves. This is incorrect as original records refer to him as John J. Reeves.Macon County, Tennessee Court minutes contain a complaint and answer given concerning some land that was conveyed from Asa Reeves to his son John J. Reeves. The court case occurred on 7 Feb 1854 and states that "John J. Reeves departed this life intestate in Macon County several years since without children leaving as his widow said comps Arsena who has since intermarried with complainant Charles E. and leaving as his heirs at law the said Charles E & Wood & wife Cynthia and the defendants to this suit." Those involved in the case are listed as "Charles E Reeves and wife Arsena, Harvey Wood & wife Cynthia against Willis Reeves Jane Puttman & husband John Putman William Reeves Amanda Bush and her husband James R. Bush Luke Reeves and George, Middleton, Whitfield, Franklin, Charlotte, Mary, Eliza, Emaline, and Moses Reeves, the last nine are minors for whom Asa Reeves is guardian ad litim."
