Research Notes

This individual is believed by some to be the child of William G. Reeve who died in DeKalb County, Alabama before Dec. 1853. On the 1860 census of that county, the household includes only his mother Eliza and he is listed as John "S" Reeves which is believed to be incorrect and he is shown as age 4 or born 1856. None of the five children listed in probate documents of William G. Reeve are living in that household of Eliza Reeves in 1860. Probate documents from the DeKalb County Alabama estate file of William G. Reeve also do not include a child "John".

The John T. Reeves of Lawrence County, Alabama gives 1856 or 57 as his date of birth in most census years and also lists the birthplaces of his father and mother as Alabama. William G. Reeve was born in South Carolina and Eliza, his wife, gives her place of birth as Georgia in the 1850 census.

These facts appear to prove that it is doubtful the John T. Reeves of Lawrence County, Alabama could have been the child of William G. Reeve.
