Narrative

Savannah Republican, 5 Mar 1811
Departed this life, in Washington county, in the nineteenth year of her age, Mrs. MARY RIVES, consort of Turner Rives, esq., and youngest daughter of Col. John Rutherford, leaving an infant only four months old. In the loss of this amiable lady, her mourning relations have just cause for sorrow. In the discharge of the numerous duties of mother, daughter, and neighbor , she had few equals.
"She, like the budding rose, put forth fair promise, 'Till death, like an untimely frost, withered its bloom."

From the Georgia Journal 1808-1818
Baldwin County, Georgia
23 Dec 1812 - Turner Reeves of Washington Co. married to Harriet Bedingfield of this place.

It appears that John Turner Reeves (Rives) was deceased by 1820, for by that census, Harriett E. Reeves is listed as the head of household in Washington County, Georgia with two male children under 10 years old.

In December of 1816, John T. Reaves (sic) was appointed by the Georgia General Assembly as a Trustee of the Academy of Washington County.

There is no indication as to which Reeves' family John Turner Rives belonged. The only other Reeves recorded in the 1820 census of Washington County was Thomas Reeves.

The 1820 will of Timothy Rives, probated in Richland District in 1822, documents the identity of John Turner Rives. The will even addresses a suit against Timothy's estate brought by John Turner Rives' widow Harriett and leaves a legacy to James, the son of Harriett and John Turner Rives.

Harriett E. Rives was deceased by August of 1828 when her estate was in probate in the records of Baldwin County.

Children of John Turner Rives and Harriett E. Hargrove Bedingfield:
  1. James T. Rives, b. before 1820, m. Amelia E. Williamson on 17 Aug 1835 in Richmond County, Georgia
