Narrative

Nothing is known of Joseph's early life, nor when he moved from Wiltshire to Southampton.

By the time of the 1841 census, Joseph and Susannah (sic) Reeves along with Mary A Francis are living on Union Street in the St Mary's area of Southampton. Joseph and Mary are described as Shoemakers, whilst Susannah is a Shoe Binder. Joseph is aged 57. The relationship between the Reeves and Francis families is not know, but none of them were born in Hampshire.

At the time of the 1851 census, Joseph and Susanna were living at 12 Chapel Street in the St Mary's area of Southampton. Living with them was their 8 year old nephew Albert Francis. Joseph was 67 years old and claims birth in Westbury, Wilts. His occupation is given as a Master Cord Wainer.

Joseph has died prior to the 1861 census, where Susan (sic) is described as a widow. FreeBMD has a death recorded in the Southampton Registration District in the December quarter of 1853 which may be this Joseph.
