Joseph Simpson Reeves
The subject of this short sketch passed away quietly, as he had lived, at his son's home, near Smithdale, February 17th 1897. Mr. Reeves was born in Pike county, November 5th, 1825. Thus living out the allotted time of the ripe age of seventy-two. He came to this county in 1850, and on July 17th, 1860, was married to Miss Amanda McGehee, whose toils and cares have long since ceased. He was the son of Eld. Z. Reeves, who preached the gospel over this country for many years, and finally went to the saints' reward. There is only one of that family now left, sister Rachael Moore, who according to nature, shall soon follow in the ways of earth. "Uncle Sim," as he was familiarly called, never joined the church, but was a moral man in all his life and dealings. His body rests at the old family home, near Zion Hill, and we hope his soul is with God.
