Josiah was enumerated in Fayette Co., GA, District 29, in 1850 and in Spalding Co., GA, Line Creek District, HH 744/744, in 1860. In 1860, Nancy W. Reeves, 7, GA, was shown in the family. She may have been a daughter or a granddaughter. Martha Reeves, age 20, was also shown with the family.

Josiah was guardian for Thomas, Joseph, and Nancy Wilson, orphans of William P. Wilson. He claimed land for them in 1843 from the Georgia land lottery.
