In 1795, Elijah and Martha Cole of Ohio County, Virginia, sold Josias Reeves of Washington County, Pennsylvania some land in Charlestown, Ohio County, Virginia. This part of Ohio County later became Brooke County. There was a Nathan Reeves who also appears to have moved from Pennsylvania to this same area around the same time who may have been a brother of Josias.

Josias Reeves is found on the 1799 personal property tax list for Brooke County, (West) Virginia which may be his earliest appearance. Josias and Nathan Reeves are found on the 1830 tax list for Brooke County, (West) Virginia.

The inventory of the estate of Josias Reeves of Brooke County, (West) Virginia was made 2 Aug 1832. Administrators were Nathan Reeves & Reason Reeves.

The will of widow Elizabeth mentions her deceased husband Josias and names sons Nathan and Reason Reeves.

An 1833 deed reveals that the court ordered some of the lands to be divided among Rachel Ann Gardner, Reason R. Gardner, Josias R. Gardner, John C. Gardner, and William M. Gardner under guardian John Gardner who were minors of Eliza Gardner dcd "who was one of the heirs at law of Josias Reeves decd." Henry Mendell is mentioned as one of the members in the case as well.
