REEVES-At the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. Garrett, near Cumming, Ia., Saturday, March 10, 1900, Lewis R. Reeves.
Deceased had been in feeble health for more than five years. He was born in Chester county, Pennsylvania, November 12, 1816, and drifted with the tide of immigration, first to Ohio, and later to Wabash county, Indiana, where he was married in February, 1945, to Mrs. Catharine Baker. By birthright and profession, he was a member of the Society of Friends until about 1850. In 1864 he came to Warren county, Iowa, and settled on the farm now owned by A. Strube, where for twenty years he was known by his neighbors as one whose word was as good as his note in business transactions. Firmness of purpose and decision of character were leading traits of his long and useful life. His aged companion, three daughters and one son feel the loss of a devoted husband and father. A more faithful husband is seldom found. His constant care was for "mother," as he called her. His two daughters and their families, viz., Mrs. Phebe Mitchell of Idaho, and Mrs. Anna Herring of Putnam, Okla., were too remote to reach home in time for his funeral, which was held from the home Monday, March 12. L. M. Reeves and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Jeikie and Mrs. Anna Stark and son of Des Moines, and a large concourse of friends at Cumming, followed the remains to the cemetery at Norwalk.
