Martha was living in Fayette Co., GA, when her father died. She married William Columbus Davis, a widower, born 5 January 1809, GA, died 14 October 1886, Van Zandt Co., TX, where he is buried in Pauline Cemetery. They married 18 December 1827 in Fayette Co., GA. William C. Davis had married first Malissa Gold in 1825. He married Miranda Frances Myers on 25 October 1860 in Nacogdoches Co., TX. Following her death, he married Mary J. Joiner on 22 July 1870 in Cherokee Co., TX.

William and Martha may have been living in Bibb Co., AL, in 1850. A William C. Davis, 41, GA, was shown there in 1850 with wife Martha, 40, SC. Children shown were James, 16, GA, and Jane, 10, GA. Also shown were Mary, 5, AL, and William, 2, AL.

Research Notes

Many secondary sources indicate that Martha and William were the parents of George W. Davis, b. 1838, GA or AL, d. 1917, TX, m. Minnie Malinda Foreman. If Martha and William were the couple living in Bibb Co., AL, in 1850, George was not shown with them. George applied for his Confederate Pension in Wichita Co., TX, in 1913. He stated there that he was born in Randolph Co., AL.
