Narrative

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Mary appears in a family context, with Edward Reeves as head of household along with his wife Jane Reeves (nee Ridett)). Mary is 10 years old and was born in county (Hampshire)

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Mary appears as a servant in the household of James DORE, a master draper. Aside from the Dore family, this household comprises five additional servants, although four are assistants in the drapery business rather than general domestic staff.

A decade later and the 1861 census shows Mary Ann living with her father Edward Reeves who is head of household at 12 Melbourne Street on the borders between Carisbrooke and Newport. Mary Ann is unmarried and shown as 30 years old having been born at Newport, Hampshire. Her occupation is given as a dress maker. There is also a 2 year old grand-daughter Mary Jane Reeves, who may be Mary Ann's daughter.

Mary Ann marries George TURNBULL in February 1869 at the Parish Church of St Mary, Carisbrooke, Hampshire, on the Isle of Wight a few months before her father's death.

Following her marriage, Mary has not, thus far, been fully researched, although she has been identified on the 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census at Plumstead, Kent, now in south east London along with her husband George. It is probable hers is the death registered during 1q1908 in Woolwich Registration District, age 78.
