CONCERT OF SACRED MUSIC.
It is with much pleasure we have observed a Concert of Sacred Music, announced by Mr. MATTHEW SULLY REEVES, to be performed in the First Presbyterian Church, this evening, in which he is to be assisted by his mother, the talented Mrs. REEVES, of this city. It may be recollected that this young Gentleman has had all the advantages afforded by that famed School of Sacred Music, the Cathedral of St. Paul's, London, where his judgment, taste and skill, placed him in a station that at once gave scope to his talents, and tended to establish his reputation. We are, therefore, much gratified at the anticipated opportunity of enjoying a Musical banquet from such a respectable source; and we sincerely hope that native and improved genius will meet with the encouragement due to his enterprise, and that a crowded, refined and fashionable auditory, will support and cheer him in his undertaking.

DEATH of PROF. M. S. REEVES - Our readers will learn with pain and surprise that Prof. M .S. REEVES, so well known throughout our State for his fine musical attainments, is no more. He died quite suddenly, last evening, of apoplexy, after having officiated in the morning as organist at St. Michael's. He was, we believe, a native of Charleston, but received his musical training in Europe. Genial and generous in disposition, he won for himself hosts of friends wherever he went. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn their loss.
