Narrative

Nothing is presently known about Robert's early life or his parentage.

Robert married Grace BOURNE in October 1806 at the Parish Church of St Mary, Portsea, Hampshire.

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Robert along with Grace are living on Beach (sic, perhaps Beech) Street in Gosport Hampshire. Emma Reeves (age 25) and Elizabeth Reeves (3) are living with Robert & Grace. Robert claims he is 55 years old and that he was born in Hampshire. His occupation is recorded as Shipwright.

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Robert along with his wife Grace are still living on Beach Street, although he is now a Retired Shipwright. He is recorded as 68 years old and born in Stockbridge, Hampshire. The household additionally comprises two further individuals
(1) Anne Bourn (age 89) who's relationship is shown as mother although this is presumed to be Grace's mother.
(2) Elizabeth Reeves, a 13 year old grand-daughter. Building from the 1841 census information, this is in all probability Elizabeth Jane Reeves, the daughter of Charles and Emma Reeves who was baptised in November 1838 at the Parish Church of St Mary, Alverstoke, Hampshire. This tentatively makes Charles the son of Robert & Grace. Further research on this individual would be helpful.

A decade later and the 1861 census shows Grace Reeves having moved to Bishops Waltham. She is a widow living with her mother and grand-daughter Elizabeth. Based on the move to Bishops Waltham, FreeBMD has a D. Reg. entry for a Robert Reeves in Droxford Registration District in the June quarter of 1857 which may prove to be this Robert.
