Narrative

Little has thus far been established about Robert's early life. It is probable his is the baptism noted on 9 Jun 1793 at Christchurch, Hampshire by FamilySearch. This index enrty has no information about his parents. The Hampshire Genealogy Society indices do not have a corresponding entry, so it would be advantageous to consult the original parish registers, if possible. (Neither index records any other Reeves baptism in the period 1793 +/- 15 years in Christchurch.)

The marriage of Robert to Deborah Giffin occurred at the Parish Church of Saints Thomas, Newport in the Isle of Wight on 25 December 1836, when both Robert and Deborah were over 40 years old.

On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Robert and Deborah were living on High Street, Newport in the Isle of Wight. His occupation is recorded as a Shoemaker. He claims he was born within the county (Hampshire) and that he is 48 years old (and other entries on these pages do not seem to have been rounded either).

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Robert along with his wife Deborah are still living on High Street, Newport. He now claims he is 57 years old and that he was born in Christchurch, Hampshire. His occupation is recorded as a Shoemaker Journeyman.

A decade later and the 1861 census shows Robert's wife Deborah as being a widow. It is highly probable that Robert's death is that noted by FreeBMD as registered during second quarter of 1854 within the Isle of Wight Registration District. The Isle of Wight Family History Society indices note this Robert was 61 years old and his death was registered at the Newport sub-district.
