Samuel, the son of James Reeves and his wife Sarah (nee BIST) was baptised on 21 May 1809 at the Parish Church of St Michael, Lyndhurst in Hampshire. He was their second son to be given the name Samuel; an elder brother Samuel was born in May 1807 and died before reaching his first birthday in March 1808.

Samuel married Jane WARD on the 26 May 1833 at the Parish Church of St Nicholas, Millbrook in Hampshire.

The currently known child of Samuel and Jane is ....
  1. Charlotte Reeves, bapt December 1835
Samuel married Susannah BLOXAM in the Fordingbridge Registration District between April and June 1855.

The known children of Samuel and Susannah are ....
  1. Keziah Charlotte Reeves, bapt July 1856
  2. Edith Elizabeth Reeves, bapt May 1858
  3. Susanna Sarah Reeves, bapt June 1859
  4. William James Bloxam Reeves, bapt February 1861
All five of the above baptisms took place at the Parish Church of St Nicholas, Millbrook, Hampshire.

On the 1841 census, Samuel with his wife Jane are sharing a dwelling in Redbridge, part of the parish of Millbrook, with an older couple Samuel Reeves (70) and Sarah Reeves (70). Sarah is in all probability his mother, but the older Samuel is currently unidentified. It might be his father James incorrectly enumerated or possibly an uncle. The two are linked by a common trade, that of Blacksmith.

By the time of the 1851 census, Samuel with his wife Jane are living together in the Redbridge area of Millbrook. There are no children, but Samuel's mother Sarah (77) is living with them and they have a visitor from St Helier, Jersey - Elizabeth BOWDEN; no family connection is currently known. Elizabeth South is working as a house servant. Samuel gives his age as 42 and claims birth in Lyndhurst, Hampshire. His occupation is given as Blacksmith.

A decade later and the 1861 census shows Samuel with a new wife Susannah and four young children living in Millbrook. Kesiah (sic) is 4 years old, Edith 3, Susanah (sic) 2 and William is just 4 months old. Samuel is now 52 years old, 11 years senior to his wife. He is working as a blacksmith.

At the time of the 1871 census Samuel and Susannah still have their four children living with them at their home on Redbridge Street, Millbrook. A nephew, John HONE (aged 54, an out of work Farm Bailiff, born in Warwickshire) is living with them. Based on John's place of birth he is more likely a relative of Susannah, who was born in Leicestershire. Samuel is now 62 years old and working as a Blacksmith and still claiming birth in Lyndhurst, Hampshire.

By the time of the 1881 census, wife Susannah is described as a widow. FreeBMD has a strongly matching Death Registration during the September quarter of 1878 in South Stoneham Registration District, for an individual named Samuel aged 69.
