From the Topeka State Journal, Topeka, Kansas, 30 Aug 1902:
Omaha, Neb., 30 August - Alfred D. Jones, who in 1854 laid out a townsite on what now is the most thickly settled portion of Omaha, died here today aged 87 years. He is reputed to have been Nebraska's first settler, and was Omaha' first postmaster.
